Dr. Marvin Lo MD
Dr. Lo is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with advanced sub-specialty fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Advanced arthroscopic techniques of the knee, shoulder, and hip.

Dr. Marvin Lo MD is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. Moreover, he has advanced sub-specialty fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Advanced arthroscopic techniques of the knee, shoulder, and hip.
He grew up in Southern California, but after 16 years in Northern California, considers himself a Bay Area Native. He graduated with a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. He continued his post – graduate education at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) where he received both a masters in health and medical sciences as well as his medical degree (M.D.). Moreover, he completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF as well.
Fellowship
He underwent advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine, Knee, and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Sports Medicine. Afterward, Dr. Lo returned to California, where he is a partner and current Chairman of the Board of Burlingame Orthopedics.
Dr. Lo’s subspecialty interests include the treatment of complex shoulder injuries particularly in throwers and overhead athletes, as well as advanced care for tendon and ligament injuries around the knee, including double bundle ACL and revision ACL surgeries. In addition, Dr. Lo has a background in basic science research focused on the prevention of articular cartilage injury. He also has a strong interest in the latest and most cutting-edge treatments for articular cartilage damage.
During his training, Dr. Lo gained extensive experience working with collegiate and professional athletes, including those from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, University of Pittsburgh Men’s Basketball, University of Pittsburgh Athletics, Duquesne Athletics, and Robert Morris Division III football and hockey teams. Currently, he is the co-founder and co-director of the High School Sports Program, which provides education and sports medicine care to Bay Area high school student-athletes. In addition, he serves as the team physician for San Mateo High School, along with several other high school athletic programs throughout the San Francisco and Peninsula areas.
Journals of Orthopedic Research
Dr. Lo is well published in the medical literature, with research appearing in respected journals such as The Lancet, Clinics in Sports Medicine, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, Journal of Orthopaedic Research, and Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, among others. Most recently, he contributed a surgical technique chapter on anatomic ACL reconstruction to one of the leading operative technique textbooks in sports medicine:

Moreover, he is a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. Therefore, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
